What is CANADA NEPAL Solidarity for Peace

CNSP provides support from within Canada to help people in Nepal build a nation where everyone can live in their communities in peace and security without fear. CNSP also provides front line counselling and help with the immigration process in Canada. 

Nepal - A Complex and Beautiful Nation

Every time someone climbs Mt. Everest, the world focuses on Nepal and hears interviews with daring individuals, but the people who are interviewed are foreigners. Seldom are the Sherpas interviewed - the Sherpas - the Nepalese people whose presence made the climbs possible. The Sherpas are not the only Nepalese whose stories need to be told.

There are the stories of brave social activists who have face the King squarely in the streets demanding that he give back the democracy. The King holds fast to power using over $43 million dollars given to him by the United States to fight the Maoist insurgency. Unfortunately the money is used to maintain a brutal monarchy in its attempt to control good citizens of Nepal.

There are the stories of individuals who run the organizations listed on this site, groups which help build confidence in farmers, students, and service workers. Through their efforts they can make a difference in the lives of people, families, and their nation.

There are the stories of women who have fought for freedom from their near serfdom using the law to challenge statutes, winning again and again in the Supreme Court of Nepal. While there is still much to do, women in Nepal are starting to get used to more freedom and more rights, and have high hopes for their daughters who will know more of the freedoms than they have ever known.

Nepal is a place of beauty and courage, of tragedy and hope. The cadre of volunteers whose efforts sustain Canada Nepal Solidarity for Peace are working to support these heroes and to bring hope to more people in Nepal - hope, something that most people in the Western world take for granted.
